A Sanctuary Holiday. Is that even possible? If you are anything like me, you have experienced (and yes, created for yourself) holidays that are over-scheduled, over-stuffed and over-blown. It happens. It’s horrifying, but it happens.
Don’t get me wrong — I love fashion and trends as much as anyone. But when it comes to the sanctuaries I design, I’m not as excited to explore the latest looks or to follow the crowd.
As I walked into this building more than a hundred years old, squashed between two larger buildings in midtown Manhattan, I realized that creating sanctuary in this place was going to be a challenge.
Sanctuary is more than just a space. It’s a mindset, meaning that it can go wherever YOU go. This is how I take sanctuary with me wherever I go.
Before I can think about creating a personal sanctuary, I need to create stillness. I need what I call The Clearing. The uncluttered floor, the empty desk, the tabletop of nothingness. I need to make room.
